Commonly used in gram staining, usually with Safranin as a counter-stain.
A component of PhytoSelect Basal medium (Prod # P6800), which is used to select for certain plant pathogens. Also a component of Crystal Violet Pectate (CVP) Medium, which can be used to select for certain species of Erwinia from plant tissues and soil (Perombelon & Burnett 1991).
