Application Notes
The Fast Green stain is used in seed testing to determine the pericarp integrity (Koehler 1957). Koehler used a 0.1% solution of fast green applied to maize seeds to stain the seeds for seed coat damage (1957). After a short soak of 15-30 seconds, the seeds are washed and analyzed for damage.
Fast green is also commonly used to stain plant tissues in conjunction with safranin O.
